Top Seven Things to Do at Kidney Week

1)  Attend the ASN Plenary sessions

Plenary sessions are excellent. They start early, and there is a different plenary session every day. Pick what you like, but the ASN president’s talk is a must.

  • Thursday, October 25: Opening Plenary Session: President's Address, Kidney Week Planning Committees Recognition, State-of-the-Art Lecture "Imaging Cellular Structure and Dynamics from Molecules to Organisms"
  • Friday, October 26: ASN Foundation for Kidney Research Presentation, Kidney Health Initiative Recognition, Homer W. Smith Award Address and Presentation, State-of-the-Art Lecture "Cell Atlases as Roadmaps to Human Disease"
  • Saturday, October 27: ASN Innovations in Kidney Education Winners, Fellows-in-Training Bowl Winners, Robert G. Narins Award Presentation, John P. Peters Award Presentation, Belding H. Scribner Award Presentation, President's Medal, State-of-the-Art Lecture "Sickle Cell Anemia: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow"
  • Sunday, October 28: Plenary Session: ASN Passing of the Gavel, Donald W. Seldin Young Investigator Award Presentation and Address, State-of-the-Art Lecture "Improving Health Outcomes in the Era of Data Ubiquity"

2)  Attend ASN Community Poster Tours

This is the first time various ASN communities are conducting poster tours.  Topics include women’s health, basic science, education, and transplantation amongst others. Try to make it to those. It is a great way to learn, and network with the ASN Community leaders, and poster presenters.  You can review the schedule for the tours in the Kidney Week 2018 Community.

3)  Attend ASN Late Breaking High Impact Clinical Trial Session

Definitely attend the late breaking high impact clinical trial sessions. Groundbreaking research is presented from all around the world. It is inspiring to see the great work done, and learn more about it.  Session Details

4)  Attend Fellows FIT Bowl Competitions

The Fellows FIT Bowl competition is held on over two days as a single-elimination event  with the championship happening on Friday the 26th at 11:30 in the main exhibit hall  Fellows nationwide compete in a jeopardy based quiz. Lots of fun, and a must for all the educators, and trainees to attend.

5) Attend Oral Presentations

I always enjoy the oral abstract presentations. Each session is about two hours long, and is directed to a specific topic.  They tell you what the latest is happening in the field of nephrology. Pick what you like, and support your peers.  Review the full schedule.

6)  Attend ASN Early Programs

There are 10 early programs which are being done this year.  These are comprehensive one or two-day pre-meeting programs on topics like transplantation, glomerulonephritis, renal pathology etc. Talks from the world renowned speakers are excellent. It’s not too late to register for an early program.

7)  Attend Alumni Dinners

As one of the largest attended nephrology conferences in the world, most of the institutes have their alumni meet ups planned during the time. Great way to network, and meet your colleagues.
